Victory πŸ“Œ

But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. -1 Corinthians 15:57

As children belonging to God, we have the victory through Jesus Christ. No matter what we face here on Earth, we are already on the winning side. Scripture reminds us in Romans 8:37, that we are more than conquerors. We can overcome the trials of life and experience victory over sin, death, and the power of evil. Though the enemy comes to steal, kill and destroy, we have life in abundance through Jesus Christ. As a child of God, we fight from victory, not for victory.

When I think of victory, I am reminded of 2 Chronicles 20. This chapter highlights a pivotal time for the kingdom of Judah. Upon hearing that a large army of Moabites, Ammonites, and Meunites had collected to invade Judah, the chapter opens up. Judah’s monarch Jehoshaphat decided to ask the Lord for assistance because he was afraid. He called for a nationwide fast and gathered the populace to ask God for direction. God responded by communicating with Jehoshaphat through the prophet Jahaziel, who proclaimed that God, not Judah, was in charge of the conflict. The Lord vowed to support Judah in battle and provide them victory.

Judah’s army was led by Jehoshaphat into the wilderness, where they started singing and praising the Lord. The Lord sent ambushes against the opposing armies, leading them to engage in combat and decimate one another while they sang. Judah came to the battlefield and discovered only dead bodies and a ton of loot. The victory was so overwhelming that it took the populace three days to collect all the spoils. Following the conflict, Jehoshaphat and the populace went back to Jerusalem to thank the Lord for saving them. The chapter ends with the assertion that Jehoshaphat’s rule brought peace to the kingdom of Judah.

2 Chronicles 20 is a narrative of faith, trust and God’s faithfulness. It demonstrates how, when His people turn to Him in prayer and put their faith in His promises, God can deliver them from seemingly hopeless circumstances.

Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God. -Psalm 20:7

May you be encouraged today and always that God fights your battles for you. As scripture says in Exodus 14:14 β€œThe Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” Be still and rest assured that He is God ( Psalm 46:10 ). No matter the currency of your situation, God is present. He is Jehovah Shammah meaning β€œThe Lord is There”. Choose to pray and praise. Raise a shout unto the Lord. Magnify the Lord above your situation. Seek His face before, in the middle of the battlefield and afterwards. There’s no storm greater than our God. The One who is able to calm every raging sea is our God. Fix your eyes on Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.
