CurlFest 2017

What is Curlfest? It is a festival where women/men of all race/nationalities come together to celebrate their roots.

My experience:

Yesterday was actually my first time at CURLFEST. It took place in Prospect Park, Brooklyn, NY.  I went with my sister’s friend. Upon arriving, we had to find a parking spot which took a while to find but eventually we found one. It was my third time in Brooklyn. The park was really big. There were families sitting down reading a book or trying to catch a fish. We got to the designated location for the festival within 15 minutes. All I can say is wow. It was so packed and to top it off, it was so humid. The connection was horrible at the park. A friend of mine was already at the event and it took us at least an hour before we were able to find each other. By that time, I was frustrated. Overall, I really enjoyed attending CURLFEST. I didn’t get the chance to attend last year because I found out about it after it took place. I enjoyed meeting some Youtubers and also being able to capture the moments. I took quite a lot of pictures, I would like to share with you all. I loved the atmosphere but I would have to say that I wish there were more discussions focused on men and their textures. I didn’t even hear any conversations about natural hair. Definitely, Shea moisture had their own set up where they were actually twisting people’s hair and educating young females about taking care of their hair. I saw a few people I knew from college and that was a beautiful feeling. I enjoyed walking around, checking out the different vendors and taking pictures of various people. If you are thinking about going next year, all I can say is GO AHEAD! You don’t want to miss the experience. Bring your camera, have a portable charger, and come ready to have a good time. CURLFEST is FREE.

My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style. -Maya Angelou 🙂

All pictures on this post aren’t mine. They are all found on google.  All the names above are the artist/photographer’s names. There were so many names but the list would have been too long so I’ll post more when I can. For now, tell your friends and their friends. I know sometimes people don’t like to share but this platform is different. Support creatives. Invest in people. Empower one another. Stay tuned for the next set of creatives I will share. Until next time, shine bright. Hold hands with God. Take care. 🙂
