Note To Younger Girls

  1. You are beautiful. Mama may have never told you that but I’m here to remind you that you are fearfully and wonderfully made. You are unique. No one can ever be you. You may have heard this before but that’s the truth of the matter.
  2. Take time for yourself. Get to know you. No this is not selfish. It’s extremely important for your well-being.
  3. Cultivate a relationship with God. Your faith is not dependent on your mother, father or grandmother’s salvation. Get to know God for yourself. You don’t have to wait till your 30 before you start getting serious about your relationship with God.
  4. You are not going to live in your parent’s house forever. One day, you’ll move out. So while you are living with your parents, make the most out of your time.
  5. Learn to cook. It’s not everyday ramen noodles. When your mom is cooking, try to watch her and ask questions. Learn from her. Cooking is art. Learn from others and add their tips to your cooking. These days, people showcase their cooking on youtube. You can learn from there. Stop getting upset when your asked to do your chores. It will help you one day in life. When you go to college and meet people who don’t clean or even brush their teeth, you’ll thank your mother for raising you.
  6. Learn from others. When you don’t understand something, ask questions.
  7. Friends come and go. At a young age, it’s so tough to understand. You’ll get upset and frustrated but later on you’ll realize it. Surround yourself with postive, likeminded people. You are who you attract. If you like drama, people who love drama, will be attracted to you. Know your friends. It’s not everyone you meet, you automatically give them the spare keys to your house. In the same way, you shouldn’t consider everyone you meet your friends. Know the difference between associates and friends. In order for one to be a good friend to you, you must learn to be one too. There is a season for everything. Understanding that there is a purpose to every encounter is key. Those who are meant to be a part of your life will be there. Don’t try to maintain friendships/relationships with people who make it apparent that they don’t want your friendship.
  8. Know your value. The way you are raised plays a role in how you behave/view things later on in life.
  9. Set goals for yourself but don’t forget to include God in your plans.
  10. Life is a journey. Be open to new adventures in life. Continue to learn from others. Don’t be hard on yourself. Try not to compare yourself with others. No one is perfect. It’s not everything you see in movies, or social media that is true. Most of the things your see are just highlights of one’s life. You don’t know what people are going through behind close doors. Appreciate the people that God has placed in your life. Make the most out of each day you are blessed to see. Live, laugh, love smile while you can. Life is what you make it 🙂

Set A Goal

Notebook Set | NYLON SHOP:

For many of us, before the year started we made a list of things we wanted to do. And for others, a new years resolutions list was made. I wonder how’s that coming along? Have you accomplished any of your goals? What is hindering you from starting or even continuing?

So as the year started, I made a new years resolution which was (consistency). Consistency in every area in my life. From reading/studying the Bible more, writing on my blog, reading a book every month. How’s that going so far for me? It’s actually going well. If I can rate how consistent I am from a scale of 1-10, I would say 8.5 out of 10. I am trying. Where credit is due, I’ll give it. It’s not always but having a small notebook to take notes has been extremely helpful.

On January 16th, I started a “set a goal every week challenge”. I told my sister and one of my friends about it. They joined my challenge. So what exactly is the challenge? So every week on Sunday, you must set one or two goals for yourself for that week. When Sunday arrives, we have to report to each other on how the challenge went about for us. Were we able to accomplish the goal we wanted to accomplish? Why didn’t we accomplish us? What were some of the hindrances that set us back? What can we do the next time, for this not to be a repetitive behavior?

Feel free to join this challenge.

Challenge Rules:

1. Get a notebook/writing utensil.

2. Every Sunday, you must write a new goal for the week.

3. Get a friend to participate in this challenge. Tell your friends and their friends.

Tips on seriously accomplishing your goals

1.  Be focused.

2. Check your notebook on what needs to be accomplished. Check off what you have accomplished. Be consistent. If you can’t accomplish last weeks goal, for the following week, instead of creating a new list, you can write in your notebook “Complete last week’s goals.”

3. Let your goals be realistic.

Examples of Goals:

1. Start reading/studying a book in the Bible.

2. Cook a new meal

3. Write for an hour

4. Spend time to listen to worship (no distraction)

5. Drink 5-6 cups of water

6. Read three chapters in a book

7. Take a walk for 30 minutes every day

8. Speak to your mother/father more often.

9. Start working on your book.

10. Start a Youtube channel.

Reflection: First, I got a notebook and started writing my goals and other things including people I wanted to meet in this life and places I wanted to go. Just yesterday, I picked up the book to look at it and I just smiled. I’ve accomplished and got the opportunity to go to certain places and meet different people. For instance, in 2015, I wrote down that I wanted to meet one of my favorite poets and in 2016, it happened. I met one of them. Her name is Ijeoma Umebinyuo. On March 2016, I also got the chance to meet Lupita N’yongo. I also got the chance to walk on the Brooklyn Bridge with my friend Kwame on our first time meeting. Honestly, today is January 8th, 2017 and I’m about to get ready to make my list. I got the opportunity to go to different restaurants in New York City and that was something I wrote down. It may seem like this is something you can do but honestly not everyone has a job or can afford to visit new restaurants. This was a challenge and a stretch but I’m glad I was able to do so. I’m overjoyed because writing down and making it happen process has been a blessing. Write it down but also believe and make an effort in making your dreams come alive. In the Bible, there’s a similar verse written in Habakkuk 2:2.

Even the word Bible tells us to write it down and make it happenn...Habakkuk 2:2. Vision Board 2014:
So what next? It’s time for you to purchase a journal and start jotting down your short/long term goals. Write them down in bullet form, in any way you like as long as you can read it. I can’t wait for you to look back months and years from now and smile. Look back at all that you have accomplished. See this as an adventure. Tell your friends and their friends about it. Write it down. Start somewhere. Believe in your heart. Have faith. Step out in boldness and watch it happen.
So I’ll leave you with this message below. Dream big. Turn your dreams to reality. Breathe, Awake, Water Your Garden & Allow it to Bloom. The best is yet to come.
