The Return // Uganda Mission Trip 🇺🇬

“How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!” -Romans 10:15

Heidi Baker once said “God is not about using the mighty but the willing. He is not into using amazing people, just ones who prepared to lay their lives down to him. God is not looking for extraordinary, exceptionally gifted people, just laid down lovers of Jesus who will carry his glory with transparency and not take it for themselves.”

The willingness of one’s heart to do God’s work is far much greater than the oil they carry. You can have something but not use it or even rather not be aware of the gift right in front of you.

As believers of Christ, we have been given a mandate (The Great Commission) which is found in Matthew 28:19. We are instructed to “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” With every instruction, there is a promise. The word “Go” simply means to pursue a way of life, to enter, go forth and to walk. Pursuing a certain way of living is a choice. When we learn to cultivate a lifestyle that glorifies the Lord, our fruits will speak for itself. We have been called to serve. The truth is, service starts from our hearts. It’s the very reason why we must continually ask the Lord to search us, test us and lead us into His way that is everlasting. The call to follow Christ requires a lifestyle of surrender. Surrendering to God’s will is laying it all down, saying “Yes” to His will and being obedient to His instructions. You see God wants us to Himself. He wants to saturate us, and make us more like Him but we must learn to abide in Him.

Going Where The Lord Leads You

If there’s one thing that I’ve learned in my walk with the Lord, I would have to say that being obedient is key. Though following Christ is costly, the journey is worth it. In Matthew 7:7-8, we are reminded that when we ask, it will be given to us. When we seek, we will find. When we knock, the door shall be opened unto us. For everyone who ask, receives. The one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.”

For as long as I can remember, going on a mission trip has always been something I wanted to do. During my university days, I will look for different opportunities to go on a mission trip but nothing rung a bell. It was still on my heart but I stopped searching for opportunities to go on a mission trip. I was a graduate 👩🏿‍🎓 and my focus was to look for a job. In the year 2017, I visited Ghana. While there, I told my mother that I wanted to visit an orphanage. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen because of series of events that took place but God had his own plans.

In 2018, my church started a mission ministry. I was so moved and excited about this new thing that God was doing and I wanted to be apart of it. On July 1st, 2018, my church announced that they were going to Kampala, Uganda for a mission trip to an Orphanage. Right there and then, I knew without a doubt that this was my mission trip. At the time, I didn’t have a job. I was a recent graduate in search of a job. I knew I wanted to go on this mission trip so I started looking for a part time job. It took a while but I eventually got the job, a month before the mission trip. It was a retail job but it was something for me because it will aid in me going on my first mission trip. Before the trip, we had to make a deposit of $300 to secure our spot. At the time, I had $500 in my bank account. I hadn’t inform anyone that I wanted to go on a mission trip. It was pretty much between myself and the Lord.

Before the due date of the payment, I had given the Lord a date I would make the payment. At the time, I didn’t have a job. I made the payment with what I had in my bank out trusting that God will make a way. The cost of the trip was $1,400 plus a $300 fee for yellow fee vaccination and $50 for Visa. God knows that was costly but He made a way. He confirmed Himself in so many ways. There was no doubt in my heart. It was just a matter of time that I would have the money to go on this trip. My friends contributed and my mother supported me. God made a way. There were some hindrances but it did not stop God from doing what He had in stone to do. I just had to be obedient to the call.

By God’s grace, I had the opportunity once again to go back to Uganda early this December. It was a phenomenal experience. It was such a long flight but it was a great joy being able to fellowship with 390 orphans. I can’t tell it all about the goodness of God.

Every moment spent with the little children was very precious. Looking back at last years mission trip, there were quite some improvements in the lives of these children that we witnessed. They were much cleaner in terms of their hygiene and their clothes. They were filled with joy. They were so happy to see the team and they even remembered our names. Last year, I was more of the scribe and photographer of the team but this year my role was a teacher. Initially, I was really nervous to teach but to God be the Glory, it was such a fun and interactive time with my babies. As a team, we were divided into a set of two or three to teach the children about the Lord. My team had children from the age of 3-5. We also did medical missions where we took the vital signs of each child.

Did I mention how delicious the food was in Uganda? So yummy to my tummy.

The entire duration of our trip was 9 days. We spent 10 hours at the orphanage every day. Our days consisted of us waking up to do morning devotion, having breakfast and heading out to Caring Heart Breakthrough Ministry. There we had VBS (Vacation Bible School), Medical Missions, and attended a conference everyday. Some days were tougher than others but God gave us the strength all the way throughout our time there. My time in Uganda was a memorable one. My heart is filled with joy everything I think of the little children. Anyone who knows me, is quite aware that children are my heartbeat. They are my investment. I love them so much. I’m beyond grateful for this opportunity to serve.

Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world. -James 1:27

God is looking to us to be the hands and feet wherever He leads us. He is looking for a heart that is willing. It’s easy to create excuses ( work, children, marriage and etc). I’ve come to tell you that God who lays an assignment upon your heart will not put you to shame. He will not leave you but He will guide you. He who led Abraham, Moses, Joseph, David and many servants to fulfill His mission, will also make way in the wilderness for you. Don’t allow doubt to speak louder than the Spirit that lives within you. Wherever God leads you, He will surely provide for you; far above your expectations. Take a leap of faith and watch God do what only He can do. If money is the problem, put God to the test. He will provide for you. Whatsoever your case may be, know that it is not greater than the God we serve. Yes, not everyone will be supportive of this mission but the truth is, when gives you an assignment, not everyone is going to understand. Many times, we allow fear to cripple us. We remain dormant, waiting for God while He is also waiting for us to Say Yes to the call. God will never force us to dine with Him but He invites time and time again to feast with Him.

I pray that as you take a leap of faith in saying Yes to the assignment that God has given you, you take delight all the more in the Lord. May your cup never run dry. May it overflow. May your Yes to the Lord be a resounding one. May God who rewards to the sower, bless you abundantly. For it is written

“God is not unjust; He will not forget your work and the love you have shown Him as you have helped His people and continue to help them.” -Hebrews 6:10

Take joy in serving the Lord. Time with God is an investment ; it is never wasted. It’s all about the Lord! The King is drawing you into His Kingdom. Are you ready to arise at His instructions? Will you be the hands and feet’s of Jesus for the nation that they may know the King of all Glory?

Sound of Praise! 🙌🏿

Welcome into the month of November. It is a month of remembrance of all that God has done for us. When we look back upon the months that have passed, we will realize that if it wasn’t for the grace of God, we wouldn’t be here today. It was grace that carried us through each new day. The eleventh month has arrived so fast and it will surely pass by much quicker. As we approach this month, may we recall all that God has done for us. May we take the time out of each day to say “Thank You Lord”. You see, it so easier for us to get caught up in the charades of life and neglect God until the hour of our very need. May this not be our portion in this month. God has been faithful and His goodness continues to overflow in our lives not because of anything we have done but solely because of who He is. It is a great privilege to know our Heavenly Father right here on Earth. His spirit lives within us and He longs to reveal Himself unto us daily.

In this month of November, it is my prayer that our hearts will overflow with thanksgiving unto God. From the the start of a new day to the time of sunset, may we arise with praise. I pray that with each new day, we will lift up our praises unto the Father. May our complaints become an anthem of praise. Even in those moments when things don’t go as we envisioned, may we take a moment to thank God. His plans are far greater. May we not limit God in this month but may we make room for more of Him. May He increase as we decrease. I pray that in this month, your faith will be made stronger. May you be reminded of this truth as we carry forward into the month of November “Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed,” says the Lord, who has compassion on you.” (See Isaiah 54:10). I pray that you will experience the peace of God like never before. May it calm every raging sea in your life. May the peace of God which transcends all understanding overflow bountifully without restraints. May you experience abundant peace in this season. Don’t let anything trouble your heart. When trouble knocks at your door, pray to God. Seek the face of God above all other things. I pray that in this month, your mouth will be filled with praises you cannot contain. May the Lord place a new song upon your lips. It is in your praise that you will receive a sound of Victory. May you break forth in praise like a bird with each new morning.

There are so many reasons to be thankful. We are alive and well. Someone else is taking their final breath. Someone else is in a position where they are relying on oxygen to breathe. We have water to brush our teeth, take a shower, wash our clothes. We have food to eat by God’s grace. Many of us have jobs while others are putting in applications and awaiting phone calls. It’s the eleventh month but not everyone made it to see this day. May we not take the things we have in life for granted. In this month, choose to be grateful. Take time to write down, all the things you are grateful for; for the many things that happened in the past months. I pray that in this month of November, may the words you speak bring life rather than death to those around you. May all those who encounter you see the light of Christ in you. May hope arise. May joy bloom in unexpected places. May peace reign amidst the mountains that try to take charge over you. May God who remembers all things, surprise you. May your name be a declaration of victory in this season. May your heart and mind be set on Christ. May you find satisfaction in Christ alone. Everywhere you go, may God’s presence go ahead of you. May you remember those who don’t have much and may you take the time to be a blessing unto them. All in all, may you experience the everlasting promises of God. May your life be a sign and wonder of the God you serve. Have a wonderful, blessed and fun filled month of November. Rejoice! Victory is yours in Jesus name. Be clothed in righteousness, goodness, favor, joy, new life, grace, light, love and a sound mind.

Verses To Ponder

“But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” – 1 Corinthians 15:57

But ask the animals, and they will teach you, or the birds in the sky, and they will tell you; or speak to the earth, and it will teach you, or let the fish in the sea inform you. Which of all these does not know that the hand of the LORD has done this? In his hand is the life of every creature and the breath of all mankind.” Job 12:7-10

I will remember the deeds of the Lord;
yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago. I will consider all your works and meditate on all your mighty deeds.” Your ways, God, are holy. What god is as great as our God? You are the God who performs miracles; you display your power among the peoples.

A few things you can do this month

1. Take the time to pray for those who don’t have anything. The families/Individuals who are struggling to make ends meet. Pray for those who have experienced loss whether it be this year or the months that have passed.

2. Praise like never before. Exalt the King of Kings.

3. Volunteer at a clothing drive or anything of that nature. Give back to your community.

4. Take the time to reach out to your friends and loved ones. Check up on their well-being. Spend time with them.

5. Write down at least 10 things that you are grateful for. Expand the list if you have to because honestly there is so much to be thankful for not just in this season but every day of our lives.

6. Treat yourself. It’s a blessing to shower people with gifts but it’s also good to take care of yourself too.

7. Ask the Lord to lay someone in your heart and take heed to that in which He asks of you to do. Obedience is better than compromise. It’s better than sacrifice.

With love,

Karen 🌻

Heart of Gold! 💌

“Yet you, Lord, are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand.” -Isaiah 64:8

What a great joy it is to be loved by the Father; to be showered with the gift of grace, favor, peace, and every perfect gift from above. With each new day, we are given opportunities to display God’s love to those around us. In this blog post, we are going to take a look at 10 things we can do as we go forth into our days to showcase God’s goodness and incomparable love to those surrounding us. Let’s get started!

1. Smile : Smile, it doesn’t cost you anything. Let the light of God radiate through your smile. Your smile can make a difference in someone’s life.

2. Call/Text : Take the time to reach out to your friends and loved ones. Don’t allow the busyness in your life to get in the way of you make time for those who matter. Texting someone “Good morning. How are you?” makes a huge difference in someone’s life”. By God’s grace, we are all given 24 hours in a day. May we take the time to check up on those we love.

3. Pray : It’s one thing to say “I’m going to pray for you” and another thing to actually pray for someone. So many times, we take down prayer requests but due to our busyness and forgetfulness, we don’t take the time to pray for others.

4. Quality Time : Spend time with those you love. Go to breakfast, brunch or dinner with them. You can even take a walk or simply sit in a place and just catch up. Tim is of essence and there’s no better way than spending it with those you profess you love.

5. Be A Giver : To give doesn’t necessarily mean spending money. There are so many ways we can give to others. Examples: Cook a meal, pay for someone’s lunch or groceries.

6. Encourage Others : As we go forth throughout our week, there are people we encounter who are going through tough times. Speaking life into their situations make a difference. It can give them hope. You can encourage someone by speaking life or writing a note to them.

7. Compliment Someone : Do it genuinely. Believe me when I say, giving someone a compliment goes a long way. You never know what someone is going through but your kind words can put a smile on their face. It doesn’t take five minutes to tell someone you like their hair, outfit or the cologne they are wearing.

8. Be Kind : Let the fruit of Christ character be so eminent in your lifestyle. It doesn’t hurt to be kind to other. Kindness is not to be demonstrated only when someone shows your kindness. We must continually ask the Holy Spirit to teach us how to bear this fruit. For it is written “By their fruit you will recognize them.” -Matthew 7:16. In the same way, one can differentiate a mango from a banana, may those who encounter you see the light of Christ through your life.

9. Share Your Testimony : God has been good to me and there’s no greater joy than sharing my testimony with those surrounding me. We are given opportunities to share of God’s goodness but we must learn to cease those opportunities. The Glory belongs unto God. He is continually working in each one of us. We all have been tested but through it all, we have the Victory through Christ alone. There are people who need to hear the sound of Victory. There are people who are lost, discouraged, depressed who need to hear that God is waiting for them. He has not forsaken them. Like a father, He awaits His children with open arms. Ask God to give you the Spirit of Boldness to share about the wonderful deeds He has done for you.

10. Live : Live as children of the light. We have tasted and seen God’s goodness. We have experienced the light Himself (Savior Of the world). There are so many people who have not experienced Christ. If we live our lives as people who are dead, how can those surrounding us be awakened by the truth? Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life (see John 14:6). Because Christ lives, we also live. Despite the challenges we face in this life, He is our living hope. Because of the hope we have in Christ, we are rest assured that everything we need is Him. We are secure in Christ. Our identity is found in Him. We belong to the One who lives now and forevermore. May we take delight in this knowledge of knowing Christ and who we are in Him.

Verses To Ponder

“Then I passed by and saw you kicking about in your blood, and as you lay there in your blood I said to you, “Live!” -Ezekiel 16:6

“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” -Matthew 5:14-16

Heart Of Service 🕊

Scripture: Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. -Colossians 3:23

Reflection: Looking at this scripture, we are being reminded that in all that we do, we should work at it with all our heart for the Lord. The question now becomes, who have you been working for? What is the purpose in doing the things that you do?

In a world that promotes being filthy rich through various gateways, we as believers must be reminded continually that our inheritance lies in the Lord. We may not see the reward of our deeds here on Earth, but the truth is we are blessed in so many ways. Being blessed doesn’t equate to having so much money. Waking up is a blessing. Having good health, a place to lay your head to rest and food to eat is a blessing. Having clean water go brush your teeth, shower and prepare meals is a blessing. May we always be reminded that it is Christ that we are serving. Whether in our homes or our work places, may we never lose sight of the reason why we are positioned; to serve. Time and time again, Jesus demonstrated the act of service (see John 13). As we go forth into our week, may all that we do bring glory unto God. May we serve not because we await a reward from men but much rather may we serve because we love Christ. Service is sacrificial love not slave work. Christ demonstrated this kind of love unto us. In the same way, we ought to do the same. May we be that living example wherever we go. May we be the hands and feet of Jesus here on Earth 🌍.

Verses To Ponder:

“Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” -Luke 6:38

“For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.

They also will answer, Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you? He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.” -Matthew 25:42-45

P.S. Happy Independence Day to all my Ghanaians all around the world. I celebrate with you 🇬🇭😊

Uganda Mission Trip//Aftermath 🙌🏿😊

Some days, the sun will shine. Other days, the rain will pour but yet still the Lord is the Maker of them all.

Going on a mission trip is a blessing and a life alternating experience at the same time. Its so surreal to me how the days have passed on by. Its been a month and a few days since I got back from my first mission trip to Uganda. You can read more about my experience here

The thought of coming back home from a mission trip is a mixture of emotions in itself. You want to leave the mission field yet still, you also want to stay just a little while. Your bed is calling your name but you cannot attend to it because you are a million miles away. Returning home from my mission trip has been one interesting roller coaster. The moments of feeling stagnant and wondering what next Lord? The tears, indescribable joy, smiles at the pictures taken and the continuous moments of reflecting upon everything that took place during my trip is an ongoing process. Going on my first mission trip was a testimony in itself. From the time, this mission trip was announced, I knew that this mission trip was for me. I was a recent college graduate with no job; just my student loans staring me at the face. Despite the setbacks that came along with trying to go on this mission trip, I had no doubt in my heart that it wasn’t for me. For a long while, I always wanted to attend a mission trip and also visit an orphanage. God had his way and his hands was all over this mission trip. God is still at work and He isn’t finished yet but are you willing to take a bold step of faith when the Lord calls you to be His hands and feet for the nations and for His glory?

Things you can do after going on a mission trip…

1. Take time to pray/debrief

2. Thank God for the opportunity to partnership with Him to do His work for His Kingdom. Continue to stay rooted in God’s word. Without the Vine, you cannot bear any fruit.

3. Write or share your experience with others.

For anyone who is interested in going on a mission trip:

1. Commit your desires unto God. Be specific but always know that God knows best.

2. Have faith and believe that God’s timing is best. It will come to pass. Wait on God.

3. Don’t be afraid to ask or start fundraising for your mission trip. Yes, not everyone will donate but it’s better to ask than remain silent. God will make provision for you.

4. Step out in faith. Be obedient to the call. Be bold for Christ!

5. Research about what to pack and ask questions when you don’t understand a requirement.

6. It’s okay to be nervous about going on your first mission trip but don’t let fear cripple you from doing the Lord’s work. Pray and read scriptures that will encourage you before you venture out. Remember always, that God who has carried you through the process will see you through the journey.

7. Ask your brothers and sisters in Christ to pray for you. While on the mission field, take a journal with you to document every moment 😊.

Thank you for taking the time to read this blog post. Feel free to leave any feedback. Until next time, stay blessed and rooted in Christ 🙏🏿😊

Verses to Ponder:

Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world. -James 1:27

The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom from the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor. -Isaiah 61:1-2

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time, we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. -Galatians 6:9

Travel Checklist

Scrabble letter pieces that spell "Travel the world."

Whether your traveling for the first time or the tenth time, it’s always helpful to have a checklist to guide you on what items to bring because let’s be honest, we have all forgotten something while traveling and we had to purchase it at the airport or at the country or site we are residing at which ends up being an arm and a leg at cost. So in this blog post, I will like to share some tips as well as things to bring with you while traveling.

  1. Purchase a luggage. With that in mind, it is very crucial that you purchase a luggage that is lightweight. Some luggages are heavyweight that even when you don’t have much in your suitcase, it may appear as if you packed so much.
  2. Get everything situated with your passport and visa. First-time Adult Passport Book: $110 + $25 for acceptance fee = $135 . With the visa fees, it all depends on where you are traveling. If you will be staying in an hotel, get things situated. Have all the necessary numbers you may have to dial.
  3. Most airports, allow two luggages and a small hand luggage as well as a carry on bag life a duffle bag or a backpack.
  4. When it comes to your small hand luggage bag, it is very important that you place materials such as a toothpaste, travel size mouthwash, face towel and basic things you will need when the plane lands at your destination. You want your mouth to feel fresh. You two luggages won’t go inside the plane with you but your hand luggage as well as your backpack or handbag will go inside the plane with you.
  5. In your luggages, make sure there aren’t any water bottles because the airport security, will ask you to throw it away. These items are not allowed in the airplane. You can bring travel size bottles but other than that, you may be asked to throw your items away. If you don’t want to grow through this hassle, please be mindful of what you place in your luggages. You can carry snacks to eat on the plane. Feel free to purchase snack because you may not like the food that is served on the plane.
  6. Bring an ID with you just in case if there are any rising issues about your identity. This happened to my mother so I don’t want that to happen to you.
  7. Make sure to leave your house on time for check-in. Traffic can delay you from reaching your destination on time. If your flight is at 3pm, I will advice that you leave your house at least 2 hours before time to give you time to sought things out such overweight of luggages and other issues that can arise.
  8. When it comes to packing, it is wise to pack things that you will need. That doesn’t always happen because we want to be on the safe side so we overpack but this isn’t always good. For instance, if you are traveling to another country, you might want to bring back certain things you loved from your stay but due to you overpacking, you may not have space to bring back certain things. If your luggage is overweight, charges will be made. When it comes to weighing, it is good to weigh your luggage at home to be on the safe side. It is better for your luggage to be underweight than overweight.
  9. It is very important to also check the weather for the country or state you are traveling to that you can bring the proper clothing wear for your stay.
  10. Wash your hands. Be alert wherever you go. Ask questions as a tourist. Have fun. Create memories. Enjoy every moment of your vacation.

Happy Independence Day

Happy Independence Day to my homeland Ghana. Today we have turned 60 years old. For the first time, I actually didn’t do anything to celebrate. I didn’t eat any African food. I wasn’t home. It was a beautiful feeling seeing the amount of posts that people shared online on how they were celebrating this day. I miss Ghana very much. I haven’t been there in 16 years. Soon and very soon, I will go. I’m telling you the plane ticket is like someone’s breakfast, lunch and dinner. To think of it, if we allow money to get in the way of going somewhere, we will never travel. Tell me, how did you celebrate this Independence Day? What did you chop today? Fufu & Light Soup, Banku & Okra or straight Ghana jollof rice?

Here are a few pictures I came across online on Ghana.

Picture Credit: All photos were found on Tumblr. P.S. Happy two years to my blog. (March 6,2015). We are in 2017 and we will continue to flourish 🙂
